Seniors' Physical and Mental Health Linked to Optimism

Study shows that a positive attitude can impact a senior’s mental and physical health.

SHELTON, CONNECTICUT , UNITED STATES, August 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — One of the growing health challenges that are prevalent today is understanding how various factors contribute to overall health. Often, people look to treat specific ailments instead of examining the whole. For example, if one has high blood pressure, a healthier diet and regular exercise are prescribed. Or if one’s memory and cognitive ability are deteriorating, it is often linked to just old age or the aging process itself.

A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine looked at how several distinctive factors influenced physical and mental health in people ages 65 and older. The goal of the study was to identify how things such as wisdom, outlook on life, loneliness, income, and sleep played a role in the overall health and functioning of older adults.

The four main observations made, which were published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, were:
Physical health correlated with both cognitive function and mental health;
Cognitive function was significantly associated with physical mobility, wisdom, and life satisfaction;
Physical health was associated with mental well-being, resilience, and younger age; and
Mental health was linked to optimism, self-compassion, income, and lower levels of loneliness and sleep disturbances

“Traits like optimism, resilience, wisdom, and self-compassion were found to be protective, while loneliness seemed to be a risk factor,” said Dilip Jeste, head of the research team.

Based on the results of the study, staying active and positive can help to promote healthy aging, as well as to maintain friendships and to build new relationships. At Comfort Keepers, our caregivers are trained to provide seniors with the assistance needed to maintain an active and positive lifestyle!

With advanced age and the increased frequency of some of life’s more negative experiences such as death, injury, or chronic illness, it’s not uncommon for older adults to be confronted with feelings of increased stress.

Prolonged stress can potentially lead to things such as isolation, loneliness, and depression, which could contribute to mental health problems. The key to overcoming this as we age? As the research indicates, one of the healthiest ways to combat moments of stress and adversity is through having a positive attitude toward aging itself.

Above all, independence is a critical component of having a positive attitude toward aging. Through a wide array of services, our Comfort Keepers caregivers will work to encourage seniors and see that they progress toward their goals.

At Comfort Keepers, we understand the importance of social wellness and the value it can bring to seniors’ lives. Our trusted caregivers not only provide meaningful companionship, but they can also help in getting seniors to and from the places they need to go, so they are still able to enjoy doing the things they love.

Panacea Partners with Mendi to ‘Level the Playing Field’ Using Hemp Products

Panacea’s CBD makes its way into the world of athletics with this strategic pairing.

Panacea has gone above and beyond with our Mendi product development and priming us as we enter the CBD market. Together, the sky is the limit.”

— Rachael Rapinoe, Mendi CEO

GOLDEN, CO, UNITED STATES, August 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Panacea Life Sciences has made good on its promise to expand into markets beyond the medical field, and it seems as though their opportunities are endless. The rapid growth and continued improvement and creation of hemp products puts Panacea at the top of the list when companies across the nation are looking to incorporate CBD into their own products and company’s identity. This was the exact thing that brought the Portland, Oregon-based sports company, Mendi, to the Golden foothills of Colorado.

Mendi’s CEO, Rachael Rapinoe, grew up entrenched in the sports world. She touts impressive accolades like winning an NCAA National Championship with the University of Portland’s Women’s Soccer Team (2005), playing professionally in Europe, and eventually building Rapinoe SC — a soccer performance training company & lifestyle apparel brand — with her twin, US Soccer star sister, Megan Rapinoe. In fact, it would seem that all of the team members at Mendi are MVPs in their own right, which has made the pursuit of a collaborative, scientifically-driven, quality-focused company that much more important.

Mendi’s mission is to build a brighter future for sports by leveling the playing field for how athletes and active people can stay at top performance. With the help of Panacea Life Sciences, Mendi is creating a line of the healthiest and most trusted recovery tools possible. They put a huge emphasis on simplicity, saying that “greatness doesn’t have to be complicated”, which echoes Panacea’s standards of making sure to only use 100% natural ingredients and sourcing premium strains of hemp to derive the highest quality CBD. It felt like fate that Panacea and Mendi would meet, but their partnership looks to be a much more powerful destiny. "We chose to work with Panacea first and foremost because they're good people. Secondly, they're one of the best at manufacturing CBD derived products. We pride ourselves in being seasoned entrepreneurs in the sports and cannabis industries, so we're looking for the same qualities in our partners. Panacea has gone above and beyond with our product development and priming us as we enter the market. They are not only our production partners but have also given us invaluable sales and distribution knowledge. Together, the sky is the limit", contends Rapinoe. From the get-go, their collaboration has been electric and steadfast, allowing for a much-anticipated launch of their Mendi Pro Line line of 100% isolate hemp-derived CBD products on Friday, August 23rd. The Pro Line consists of a CBD Salve Stick, Gel Capsules, and Gummies.

This official marriage between the two companies is exciting for both sides, but Panacea is most elated that they are breaking into a field where athletes of all levels, genders, ages, and backgrounds will benefit from this relatively new science of using CBD for relief and recovery. Nick Cavarra, Panacea’s Vice President of Sales, shares, “Panacea is well suited to aide in the success of today’s athlete at every level. Our focus on pain relief, anxiety, and improved sleep align perfectly with the goals and purpose of Mendi”.

Panacea Life Sciences earned the Westword’s 2019 Reader’s Choice ‘Best of Denver’ awards for the ‘Best Hemp Company’ as well as the ‘Best CBD-Infused Product’.

Founded in 2017, the Golden, Colorado-based company was created with customers’ health and well-being as a priority in order to serve as a global platform for the reintroduction of hemp-based therapeutics into mainstream lifestyles. Panacea products include softgels, fast-dissolving sublingual tablets, salves, lotions, tinctures, and gummies, and new products are constantly in the works. Diane Stein, the president of CCHR Florida said, “From its beginnings in the 1700s, using the practices of confining, restraining and isolating people with mental problems in institutions, psychiatrists have cashed in on human misery.”

Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, first brought psychiatric imprisonment to wide public notice: “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health,’” he wrote in March 1969.

eil Brickfield of the Pinellas Sheriff’s PAL received a $13,000 donation from staff and volunteers of the Clearwater Community Volunteers Center and the Church of Scientology FSO representatives.

CCV’s support means PAL can continue to go above and beyond our core mission of afterschool homework help and mentoring programming to meet our children’s biggest needs.”

— Neil Brickfield, ED Pinellas County Sheriff's PAL

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA, August 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Wednesday, August 15th, Neil Brickfield, Executive Director of Pinellas County Sheriff’s Police Athletic League (PAL), was presented a check for over $13,000 by the Clearwater Community Volunteers (CCV) to help fund youth programs at PAL in Lealman. The funds were raised from the 7th Annual Chefs’ Showcase sponsored by the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization in June of this year.

“The Clearwater Community Volunteers are a great community partner,” said Brickfield. “They help PAL to have the resources to meet the needs of our PAL participants; from pens for school to sneakers for play to a warm sweatshirt or glasses to help them read. CCV’s support means PAL can continue to go above and beyond our core mission of afterschool homework help and mentoring programming to meet our children’s biggest needs.”

Lealman is a low income neighborhood in the City of St. Petersburg. It suffers from a higher than average crime rate than the surrounding areas. PAL, located at the Lealman PAL Sports Complex, provides a safe environment where hundreds of at-risk youth from 6th to 12th grade can receive mentorship, academics, an even meals while participating in the programs.

Soltero said, “One of the first things Mr. Brickfield told us when he came to the center was the story of two young girls who are now able to go to college because of the community’s support of PAL. This is an example of why we help.”

More information about the PAL program can be found by visiting their website at www.pinellaspal.com.

To find out more information about the Clearwater Community Volunteers or the CCV Center please call Michael Soltero at (727) 316-5309 or email ccvdirector@ccvfl.org.

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA, August 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On August 25th, The Way to Happiness (TWTH) Association Tampa Bay in partnership with the Clearwater Community Volunteer (CCV) Center will hold another “Grow your own plant” workshop to help preserve Tampa Bay’s environment. Children will get potted seeds to take home and gain hands-on experience. The event and all needed supplies are free.

“If we don’t teach our future generation how to safeguard our environment we will end up destroying our planet out of ignorance,” said Ivan Batalla, manager of The Way to Happiness Center in downtown Clearwater. “We follow the principle in the Way to Happiness book where L. Ron Hubbard wrote, ‘Care of the planet begins in one’s own front yard.’”

The workshop provides information on why one should take care of the planet and all kids will get their hands dirty as they pot their own plants. Guests will keep their planted seeds and within days watch the seeds begin to sprout.

Join the workshop on Sunday, August 25th 2019 at 4pm at The Way to Happiness Center at 33 N. Fort Harrison Ave, Clearwater FL 33755. To find out more call (727) 467-6961.
