Surgeon, Dr. Dennis Begos Explains how Gastroparesis & IBS are Often Interconnected

Dennis Begos

Dennis Begos

BOSTON, MA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Whether you call it heartburn, reflux, GERD or gastroparesis, these different names are all for one condition—burning acid in the throat and mouth and August is National Gastroparesis Awareness Month.

Dr. Dennis Begos explained, “Gastroparesis causes delayed emptying of the stomach acids and food, which creates numerous symptoms including acid reflux. Along with a great deal of discomfort and systemic health-related factors, what many people don’t realize is that acid reflux can adversely affect your lifestyle and coping abilities due to its chronic bodily distress.

“Over 20% of the population has IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), but that’s not accounting for the nearly 45 million Americans that silently suffer from the symptoms of IBS.” Dr. Begos explained, “There are two different types of this syndrome, IBS-D, and IBS-M. IBS-D is recurrent or chronic diarrhea, and IBS-M is a combination of episodic diarrhea or constipation. Both of these types of the disorder are often not diagnosed until 5-10 years after a patient’s initial experience.”

The IBS & Gastroparesis Connection
Many individuals that have gastroparesis also have IBS. These disorders seem to run parallel to each other due to their muscle contraction correlation. Dr. Dennis Begos Continued, “It is thought that the muscles lining of the intestines, esophagus, and stomach contribute to and influence both IBS and gastroparesis symptoms. Stress causes both IBS and gastroparesis to flare. Many of the foods that exacerbate both conditions are the same such as caffeine, fatty foods, spices, chocolate, dairy, and onions.”

Treatment
“Gastroparesis and IBS can be controlled with medication. Antacids work to tamp down both disorders. There are several different classes of drugs that work by helping to move food through the stomach and intestines more quickly and also by controlling the amount of acid in the stomach, which consequently alleviates the acid in the throat and mouth.” Dr. Begos explained further, “Your diet plays a huge role in the control of your gastroparesis and IBS. Lemon water reduces acid by reducing the PH levels in the stomach. The same holds true for apple cider vinegar diluted in water, but you must be certain to dilute the ratio in water to avoid excessive erosion and other acid-related issues.”

Surgeon, Dr. Dennis Begos has over 20 years of clinical experience in both academic and community hospitals and has held numerous key leadership positions, including Medical Staff President and Chair of Surgery. With his extensive experience in teaching and medical writing, Dr. Begos has been highly esteemed by his peers and patients over the past few decades, as he is recognized for his surgical expertise, innovation, and his significant experience with quality and patient safety analysis and reporting.

Nonprofit Leaders Inspired, Connected at Tampa Bay Charity Coalition Luncheon

Nonprofit leaders at a bi-monthly Charity Coalition Luncheon on July 27th. Held at the Fort Harrison religious retreat, the Charity Coalition offers representatives of nonprofits the opportunity to meet and work together on similar goals.

Everything that has ever changed the world started with one person. You may think you are just one person, but one person can make a big difference.”

— Raul Arias Perez, human rights advocate

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Wednesday, July 27th, the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization hosted a bi-monthly meeting of the Tampa Bay Charity Coalition in the Fort Harrison’s Crystal Ballroom, downtown Clearwater. Over six dozen Tampa Bay nonprofit representatives networked, learned about one of the charities and heard from Raul Arias Perez on his fight against human trafficking in Mexico.

Nonprofits present included Pinellas Police Athletics League (PAL), youth mentorship program TAG-IN and The Butterfly Effect of Golf. Clemence Chevrot, Community Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater and event MC, welcomed guests.

“We established the Charity Coalition five years ago to bring nonprofits together and contribute a community-oriented force for good in Tampa Bay,” said Ms. Chevrot. “By survey, we found that people decide to volunteer for or donate to a charity because the cause matters to them or the charity’s event sounded like fun, but most of all, because of the rewarding feeling you get when you help.”

To give an example of this, Ms. Chevrot welcomed Ms. Joanie Sigal, Chairwoman of the Clearwater Community Volunteers (CCV) Fashions with Flair Fashion Show. Ms. Sigal is a long-time Clearwater-area volunteer who sits on the boards of several nonprofits, including the Clearwater Jazz Holiday. Ms. Sigal spoke about how rewarding it has been to help CCV raise more than $200,000 over the past 15 years to provide underprivileged youth with food and toys.

Mr. Arias shared his story of the national campaign he created to combat human trafficking in Mexico. He knew he had to do something after hearing from parents whose daughter became a human trafficking victim. Since then he has been educating millions on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights through the Youth for Human Rights program. One result of his campaign was to change the constitution of a Mexican State to allow for greater consideration of human rights.

Arias encouraged the audience to keep moving forward with their missions. He said, “Everything that has ever changed the world started with one person. You may think you are just one person, but one person can make a big difference.”

A speed networking segment followed wherein attendees had one minute to exchange as many business cards as possible. A few guests commented that they made more new contacts in one minute than in a whole week.

The next Charity Coalition function will be its 5th Anniversary Banquet on the 14th of September in the Fort Harrison’s auditorium. To attend or find out more about the Charity Coalition please contact Clemence Chevrot at (727) 467-6860 or Clemence@cos.flag.org.

Interior Finish Executive, Aaron Wesley Smith, Offers Dog-Friendly Workplace

Aaron Wesley Smith

Aaron Smith combines his passion for animal welfare with his love for business.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Former President of AMI Hospitality, Aaron Smith, welcomed furry friends in the office long before the trend of dog-friendly workspaces was popular. He believes employees at his interior finish company will be encouraged to adopt more animals who are in dire need of a loving home. Having the flexibility and freedom to care for pets while at work is both a fun and life-saving perk.

Studies have shown that having pets in the workplace is also of great benefit to the health of employees. It makes people happier, lowers stress levels, and improves productivity. Better communication in the office is also a great perk, as pets promote new interactions that may have otherwise never happened. Aaron Wesley Smith believes that dog-friendly workspaces keep spirits high while providing a good work-life balance.

For the past two decades, Aaron Smith has rescued dogs while supporting the SPCA. According to www.aspca.org, approximately 1.5 million pets are euthanized every year in the United States. Without the donations of animal activists like Aaron Smith, shelters would be unable to provide services the community relies on. The workplace pet policy also supports shelters by helping them place animals into homes.

Unfortunately, it is common to see good pets abandoned. Many rentals do not accept pets, putting people in tough situations when it comes time to move. Other families find themselves overwhelmed with responsibility after having children and cannot properly care for the animals. Aaron Smith and his wife Tania have committed to saving as many dogs as possible by supporting foster care programs and supporting and funding much needed medical care to pets in poor health.

Together, they continue to save countless animals from death and often choose the dogs that are least likely to get adopted. When Flash arrived at the SPCA, he had many health issues and only one eye after suffering from beatings and abuse. At 12 years old, Flash had extreme anxiety and could not be left alone for long. Aaron Smith and his wife Tania saved Flash, welcoming him into their home to receive unconditional love. It is common for good pets just like Flash to be put down because they need special care. Aaron Smith tries to combat this unfortunate circumstance through his furry friend policy at every company he is involved with.

Now located in Orange County California, Aaron Smith continues to be an advocate for rescue dogs and the organizations that support them. The bond and warmth of a rescue dog is like no other, which is why Aaron and his Tania Tomyn will continue to adopt and care for neglected animals in the Southern California area.

The Amazing Race Winner Reichen Kuhl Has a Surprise Reunion with Host Phil Keoghan

Reichen Kuhl

Reichen Kuhl

PLAYA DEL REY, CA, USA, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Reichen (Lehmkuhl) Kuhl is the winner of the 4th season of the hit show The Amazing Race. While staying in his home-town years after filming, Reichen recalls a surprise reunion with the show’s host, Phil Keoghan.

Reichen (Lehmkuhl) Kuhl made international news when he was half of the winning team of 2003’s season of The Amazing Race, broadcasted on CBS. Apart from demonstrating impressive skill and aptitude throughout the show’s various challenges, Reichen Kuhl was the first openly gay winner, competing with his then-partner for the 2003 season.

The show ran for a total of 31 seasons and won a range of Emmy Awards and the attention of millions of worldwide viewers. When their season is over, competitors rarely have the opportunity to meet up with each other or with the showrunners. In Reichen Kuhl’s case, though, he was able to reunite with the host Phil Keoghan during the filming of the final season.

The last season of The Amazing Race took place in Hermosa Beach, which also happened to be the same town Reichen currently called home. He could see a bunch of kites that looked like jellyfish from where he stood in his backyard and decided to see what the celebration was. Arriving on the beach, he saw film equipment, a production crew, and tons of fans gathered together around someone familiar. Before long, he realized they were filming a segment of The Amazing Race with the host Phil Keoghan at the center.

“I looked for Phil and there he was. When I walked up to him, he had a crowd of fans around him and he immediately said, ‘Oh my God it’s Reichen, the winner of Amazing Race 4,’” says Reichen Kuhl, “and we stood together for a bunch of pictures, many from my own phone because I could not believe they were in my backyard!”

Years had passed since Reichen competed for the million-dollar prize on CBS’ hit show, and the entire crew had suddenly appeared in his backyard.

“It was surreal, to say the least, but a very pleasant surprise,” says Reichen Kuhl.

The show was created by Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster, and originally aired in the US in 2001. Since airing, The Amazing Race has gone on to win thirteen Primetime Emmy Awards, ten of which are for the "Outstanding Reality-Competition Program." Though it began in the United States, the show had a handful of international spinoffs that followed a similar format. It remains one of the most famous landmark reality-competition shows of all time.

Reichen Kuhl is formerly known as Reichen Lehmkuhl, whereas he and other members of his
family shortened their last name to “Kuhl” in 2014.

Entrepreneur and Investor Lisa Nguyen to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — If it's only about the money, you're going to fail. The money will come when you do what you’re passionate about, what you love.

For entrepreneur, investor and business consultant Lisa Nguyen, that passion and love was her daughter Katelyn.

Ten years ago, Katelyn was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism.

“At the time nobody really knew much about autism,” recalls Nguyen. “I just started researching and teaching myself everything I could possibly could.”

Nguyen was a cosmetologist when her daughter was diagnosed and felt she I had to do something different. Not long after, she received her master's degree in accounting. Combining her experience in the beauty industry with what she learned about business, she started branding her own skincare and cosmetic line.

“I didn't see a single makeup line whose profits would continue to roll over and help kids with special needs,” says Nguyen. “I took that challenge and I told my story.”

Within two months she’d generated $60,000 revenue, which she donated to the Child Studies Center and the Autism Treatment Center in Dallas.

“It wasn't just them taking a check from me,” says Nguyen. “They walked me around to show me the center, and I just felt this joy; these kids are getting the extra therapy they need because of the little amount I was able to give. Ultimately, I realized there's not really a cure for autism; they're just unique, special kids. That kept me going.”

Soon, Nguyen turned one small nail salon into three high-end day spas before she sold all three. Then she did another three. Today, Nguyen owns salons, spas, laundromats, even a hibachi restaurant.

“Each time I launch a business, I give myself three to six months to get everything going, put the right people in place, put a management team so I can step back and oversee it from a distance without having to be there every day. This way I’m able to branch out into many other things.”

Recently, Nguyen and her team have transitioned to real estate, developing commercial properties, shopping centers and residential properties.

Nguyen says her ultimate goal is to franchise a chain of salons with her brand of products. Every time a client buys something, the money is going to help another child.

“Because of my daughter, we are able to contribute something to help see another child get the therapy they need,” says Nguyen. “Katelyn never gave up. She just kept going. Now she's in public school. I’ll never give up on her.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Lisa Nguyen in an interview with Doug Llewelyn on August 1st at 2pm EDT.
