Going forward, government initiatives to support child care, rising corporate profits which enable companies to spend more on social benefits to employees, and awareness due to the rise in internet penetration will drive growth. Calcium in Arteries is Shown to Increase Patients’ Imminent or Long-Term Risk of a Heart Attack, Researchers Find

test

New study from the Intermountain Healthcare Heart Institute in Salt Lake City shows that identifying the presence or absence of coronary artery calcium in a patients’ arteries can help determine their future risk.

Through these results, we’re seeing more clearly that the presence of coronary artery calcium can help us to predict who is more likely to have a cardiac event.”

— Viet Le, PA-C, Intermountain Healthcare Heart Institute

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 84111, April 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — About six million people come into an emergency department every year with chest pain, but not all of them are having a heart attack — and many are not even at risk or are at very low risk for having one.

Now, a new research study presented at the American College Cardiology Scientific Sessions from the Intermountain Healthcare Heart Institute in Salt Lake City shows that identifying the presence or absence of coronary artery calcium (CAC) in a patients’ arteries can help determine their future risk.

“Through these results, we’re seeing more clearly that the presence of coronary artery calcium can help us to predict who is more likely to have a cardiac event, not only later in life, but when symptoms are present, in the near future and hopefully, medically intervene in time to stop it,” said Viet T. Le, PA-C, principal investigator and researcher at the Intermountain Healthcare Heart Institute in Salt Lake City.

Results of the study were presented at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions last month in Atlanta.

For the study, researchers identified 5,547 patients without a history of coronary artery disease who came to Intermountain Medical Center with chest pain between April 2013 and June 2016.

These patients had undergone PET/CT scans to assess for ischemia, a disruption of normal blood flow through the heart arteries to the muscle tissues of the heart. This scan also looks for the presence of CAC, which are calcium deposits on the walls of the heart’s arteries, indicating atherosclerosis, or plaque, the hallmark of heart disease. The researchers then examined patients’ medical outcomes for up to the next four years.

Researchers found that patients whose scans revealed CAC were at higher risk of having a heart event within 90 days compared with patients whose PET/CT showed they had no CAC. Researchers also found that patients with CAC were also more likely over the following years to have high-grade obstructive coronary artery disease, revascularization surgery, and/or other major adverse cardiac events than patients who had no coronary artery calcium.

The findings can be used in two different ways, said Le.

First, testing for CAC can help emergency departments quickly identify those patients with chest pain, but are not in acute distress as being at risk for a future heart event from those who may have non-heart related symptoms and should follow up with their primary care physician to identify the true source of the chest pain, which may be as simple as a pulled muscle. These CAC scans are non-invasive, use only as much radiation as a mammogram, and are relatively cheap, especially compared to PET/CT stress tests, Le said.

Second, CAC isn’t easily visually identifiable at low or moderate levels in the arteries without a formal scan. Checking patients who are not actively found to be experiencing a heart event but who have suspicious symptoms when they come to the ED can help physicians identify who is at risk for a future event. This allows for early initiation of risk reducing lifestyle changes in those found to have CAC to avoid future events.

“We can have that discussion about improving their lifestyle a little sooner this way because they may not be having an acute event but they’re looking down the barrel of one, so let’s see if we can move that barrel away,” said Le.

Future studies are needed to demonstrate whether a CAC first strategy in these symptomatic patients will better identify those who should have further stress testing as well as improve patient education and early implementation of risk reducing strategies.

This research was funded by the Intermountain Foundation.

Motorsports Legend Rodin Younessi Competed in Le Mans 24-Hour Race Behind the Wheel of an ORECA 03

Rodin Younessi

Rodin Younessi

PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, USA, April 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The ORECA 03 is a Le Mans Prototype built by ORECA in 2011 and known internationally for its quality performance in high-endurance races. Rodin Younessi piloted one of seven ORECA 03 vehicles that entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans competition in 2013.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a world-renowned racing competition held each year since its inception in 1923. Today, it’s considered one of the most-followed and highly-anticipated races in the world and is the premiere competition for endurance and efficiency. For the 2013 series, the 90th anniversary of Le Mans, motorsports enthusiast and dealership-owner Rodin Younessi raced in one of the seven ORECA 03 models entered into the competition.

“I am overwhelmed by the opportunity I've been given to compete in the 90th Anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans; the feeling is surreal,” said Rodin Younessi before the race began. “I am grateful for the faith, confidence, and the once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Built and developed by ORECA, the 03 model is one of 24 in total and is the third car that the company has produced after the 01 and FLM09. It’s the preferred choice of many drivers for endurance racing, and it’s an especially popular option for those competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. To ensure that their many vehicles participating in the Le Mans performed to their fullest ability, the engine department, based in Magny-Cours, served on hand at the competition with engineers overseeing no fewer than eight V8 engines (seven of which were the 03 model).

“It’s a powerful and stable vehicle delivering high-performance across hours of continuous use,” said Rodin Younessi, “making it an obvious choice for the Le Mans. It was an honor to drive such a capable car for the competition.”

The ORECA 03 debuted in 2011 and has set the standard for the LM P2 class of vehicles ever since, especially in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The vehicle was a prototype designed in ORECA workshops that quickly became a manufacturing success, holding two consecutive pole positions and two fastest race laps. After the ORECA 03 reached its initial podium at the 2011 Le Mans, two others finished in the top three in 2012. In total, seven of the eight ORECA 03 entered that year took the checkered flag, and four of their vehicles ranked in the top six finalists.

“The ORECA 03 distinguishes itself by how easy it is to drive, especially for gentlemen drivers,” said Director of the Design Bureau Christophe Guibbal. “The ORECA allows pros to get the max out of the car and push the limits, while the amateurs have to find their own limits and reach the highest level possible.”

Ultimately, Rodin Younessi and his fellow ORECA 03 drivers of the 2013 Le Mans raced one of the highest-performing vehicles on the market in one of the most world-renowned motorsports racing events in history.

Grillilng food safety tips by Stop Foodborne Illness

Make sure that you are grilling meat at the proper temperature.

Warmer temperatures outside comes an increased risk of foodborne illness. Learn these food safety grilling tips.

CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, April 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — As weather gets warmer and days get longer, we inevitably want to gather with friends and family for evenings around the grill. However, with warmer temperatures also comes an increased risk of foodborne illness. According to Stop Foodborne Illness – a national, nonprofit, public health organization dedicated to preventing illness and death from foodborne pathogens – the bacteria in your food multiply faster at temperatures between 40°F and 140°F. Read on to learn how you can prevent foodborne illness while grilling so you can have fun, carefree and safe barbecues all summer long.

Your Barbecue Journey
Knowing how to safely prepare, cook and store food is easier than you might think. Here are some tips on being food safe before, during, and after your barbecue.

Destination #1 – The Grocery Store
Any great barbecue starts with quality meats and vegetables from your local grocery store. To avoid cross-contamination between the raw meats you purchase and other foods in your cart, wrap the meat in plastic produce bags (many grocery stores provide these). This keeps the meat juices from dripping onto other items. For grocery stores that offer paper wrapping for poultry, fish, and red meat you may want to request extra wrapping from the employee assisting you. The main objective is to keep those raw meat juices away from produce and other items in your cart.

Remember, the trunk of your car is especially hot on warm days, so for the ride home, or on to wherever the cookout is happening, pack a cooler with ice (or frozen gel packs) to store the meat, especially for hot days over 90°F. If you’re traveling a distance and packing produce and other items too, be sure to keep the uncooked meat in a separate cooler from the other items. If you’re headed home, meat and other perishables should be the first out of the car and into the fridge or freezer.

Destination #2 – The Cookout Spot
You’ve arrived and you’re ready to start cooking if you’ve done the following: Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water. Washing hands before and after handling raw meat help to avoid transferring any potential bacteria to other foods. If soap and water aren’t easily accessible, bring a 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean throughout the process.

When preparing your meat, you want to prevent any bacteria from the raw meat (and juices) from contaminating your freshly barbecued meal. If marinating is your thing, make two batches of sauce – one for use on raw meat (marinating) and one for use on cooked meat (basting). After marinating raw meats in the fridge (not on the counter), discard the marinade. DO NOT reuse raw meat marinade for cooked food.

Most importantly, grill meat to a safe internal temperature. Using a meat thermometer is the only way to know if the meat is fully cooked, so don’t guess! Check the temperature at the thickest part of the meat and sanitize the point of the thermometer in between readings.

Safe Internal Temperatures
• Burgers/ground meat (except poultry) to 160°F (72°C)
• Chicken and Poultry (including ground poultry like turkey burgers) to 165°F (74°C)
• Whole cuts of meat including pork to 145°F (63°C), with a 3-minute rest time before serving
• Fish and Shellfish to 145°F (63°C)

When plating, do not use the same platter to serve cooked food that you used to hold the raw meat. This goes for utensils as well – like tongs and spatulas – keeping raw meat juices away from cooked foods prevents the spread of potentially harmful bacteria. Unless utensils and dishes have been thoroughly washed with soap and hot water between transporting raw meats to the grill and removing cooked meats to bring to the table, you cannot use the same utensils and dishes.

Destination #3 – The Return Home
If you’re hungry, don’t wait to go back for seconds! On 90°F or higher days, perishable foods not eaten within one hour should be thrown away. On other days (below 90°F), perishable foods not eaten or refrigerated within two hours should be tossed out.

When storing leftovers, fully cooked food can be stored in shallow containers in a cooler with other cold beverages. To be sure food is still good for the next day, promptly refrigerate leftovers in a cooler with ice and then in the fridge when you return home. However, if you are still unsure if the food is safe to keep, just remember – when in doubt, throw it out.

Philanthropist and businessman Abraham Kiswani looks forward to setting a record total as this year's contributions get off to an unprecedented start.

BURBANK, ILLINOIS, USA, April 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Well known and highly respected for his philanthropic nature and wider charitable efforts, security industry professional Abraham Kiswani and his business look set to reach a record donation and fundraising total in 2019 as the year gets off to a fantastic start. Here, Chicago-based Kiswani reveals more about his support for charities including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, and the Tuskegee NEXT project, as well as his commitment to other local good causes and initiatives.

Having raised many tens of thousands of dollars for charities and organizations including Toys for Tots, the Tuskegee NEXT project, St. Baldrick's, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in recent years, philanthropist Abraham Kiswani looks set to reach a record-breaking new total this year after donating more than $200,000 in 2018.

"Through fundraising, events, and donations made by myself and my company, we're looking to top last year's total in 2019," reveals Kiswani, who has already pledged significant sums of money to several of his preferred charities, nonprofit organizations, and other good causes this year. He currently estimates that this year's total could top $225,000.

Last month, Abraham Kiswani also announced details of the upcoming First Annual Beat Cancer Charity Basketball Showdown to be held in Chicago. Set to take place on Saturday, June 22, 2019, and billed as 'one of the best basketball showdowns the area has ever witnessed,' all proceeds from the event will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

One of Kiswani's most eagerly supported causes, the research hospital is closely tied to childhood cancer charity the St. Baldrick's Foundation, with which the businessman and philanthropist is also heavily involved.

Indeed, he and his company have donated annually to the charitable organization since 2012. Donations made by Kiswani and his firm solely to St. Baldrick's now exceed $35,000, he reveals. "Much like all of the good causes which I proudly support, St. Baldrick's is an incredible organization," he explains, "and entirely worthy of all the help and support that we can give."

A passionate sportsman, this year, Kiswani is also organizing a number of Major League Baseball tickets to generously gift to local disadvantaged children and those from low-income families. "We'll also continue to donate to Chicago's South Side churches to help feed the hungry and to further put back into the local community," adds the certified security sector professional, businessman, and philanthropist, wrapping up.

A graduate of Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights, Illinois, Abraham Kiswani is today based in nearby Burbank, around 15 miles southwest of Chicago. Outside of his work and charitable efforts, Kiswani's personal interests include skydiving, bungee jumping, and antique muscle cars, as well as cooking, movie memorabilia collecting, sailing, scuba diving, and softball.
