Marking the centennial anniversary of the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who died in 2004, His Highness, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current President has declared that 2018 will be known as the Year of Zayed.  Numerous activities are underway in the U.A.E. and globally to share the legacy of Sheikh Zayed.

In commemoration of the Year of Zayed, Don Victor Mooney, of Queens, New York will cycle thru New York City's Boroughs, which include the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. In each borough he plans to plant a tree in memory of Sheikh Zayed love of the earth. Intermittently, he'll make stops and share the legacy of Zayed.

In 2005, the United Nations Environment Programme honored Sheikh Zayed posthumously with the ‘Champion of the Earth’ award for his outstanding wildlife conservation, agriculture, forestation, and preserving biodiversity efforts both inside the U.A.E. and around the world.

Shortly afterwards, Don Victor Mooney will fly to U.A.E. where he'll embark on a second bike tour from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, with seven ghaf trees – the national tree of the U.A.E. in tow. He hopes to culminate his journey at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where he ended his first U.A.E. bike tour that took him thru all seven emirates in 2007.

The seven ghaf trees will symbolize and celebrate Sheikh Zayed vision of uniting all seven Emirates, said Don Victor Mooney.

The Zayed Mile project has launched a social media campaign to share it's admiration for Sheikh Zayed using the hashtag #thezayedmile.    

For nearly two decades, Don Victor Mooney has continuously shared the legacy of Sheikh Zayed. He named his rowboat in honor of the founding father for a transatlantic row that was aborted early on in 2009; however, that set back didn't discourage him. He named his second boat – Never Give Up – painted in the national colors of the U.A.E. in 2011. He nearly lost his life as that boat took on water and he deployed a life raft that had him drifting for 14 days in the Atlantic Ocean until he was rescued. 

Finally, Don Victor Mooney found victory when he completed his transatlantic row that took an arduous 21 months from the coast of Africa to New York's Brooklyn Bridge in 2015. Last year, he presented his rowing uniform and other items to the U.A.E. Consulate in New York marking the completion of that journey after a ceremony at Islamic Leadership School in the Bronx.

No one plans to get sick or get into a debilitating accident. We pay exorbitant amounts for health insurance for such events. Depending on the health plan you have, it might only cover a fraction of the medical expenses one incurs. If you don’t have health care, the costs for care are astronomical.

There will also be other costs, such as gas for going to the doctor’s, treatment centers and hospital. And if a spouse must take time off from work, it becomes unpaid leave after a certain number of weeks or may have to quit his or her job (or to take care of a family member), reducing the family income by as much as half. It’s not uncommon to hear of fundraisers for those stricken with an illness, which helps but is usually not enough to make a dent.

If 25% or more of your income is going toward medical bills, you might want to consider filing for medical bankruptcy. This type of bankruptcy is no different than filing or a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. With a bankruptcy, some debts take priority over others and cannot be discharged.

The debts that take priority are ones that are secured (collateral is put up as payment) and cannot be wiped (discharged). These debts include child support, alimony, and student loans. Medical bankruptcy is considered a non-priority, unsecured debt meaning it can be wiped without having collateral. The only catch is that you must be eligible for Chapter 7 (personal bankruptcy).

In earlier blogs, we discussed the requirements for Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies. With a Chapter 7, you must pass the means test and have little to no assets. There is no limit/cap on the amount of debt you can discharge. And with a Chapter 13, you must earn above the median Pennsylvania income and have assets. You’ll be put on a payment plan set up by the IRS too. Once you make all the payments, the rest of the debt will be wiped away. However, just like being eligible for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, there is a catch for a Chapter 13. The catch is that there is a debt limit. Chapter 13 is for those who have less than $394,725 total in unsecured debts. Also, they must have less than $1,184,200 in secured debt.

When Medical Bankruptcy is the Solution

There are other options to pay medical bills:

-Negotiate with the medical provider on a settlement. If a collections agency is contacting you, you can negotiate with them as well.
-Ask the billing department if you can set up a payment plan.
-Ask your doctor’s office or hospital if there is an assistance program. Many times, there is a local charity that can help offset costs.

If these options do not provide the permanent relief you need, then medical bankruptcy is the solution. At Cibik & Cataldo, we know that bankruptcy is not what you want. It will relieve a large burden so you can focus on getting better (or focus on your loved one who is ill) and get back on track financially. You’ll also be able to concentrate on getting a new job if you had to quit your old job due to the medical situation.

If you think you will endure future medical bills, such as another round of chemotherapy, then you should wait to file for bankruptcy since you can only file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy every eight years. If you have been discharged from a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and need to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you’ll only have to wait four years. However, if you never received a discharge from the bankruptcy, no matter the bankruptcy type, then you don’t have to abide by the time limits.

Medical Bills By Default

Some are forced to declare a medical (Chapter 7) bankruptcy. If you are divorced and your ex files a Chapter 7 because of medical bills, you can be included in the bankruptcy if you co-signed on a loan(s). Even though are you are able to pay your own bills, you cannot pay the outstanding debt too. Thus, filing for bankruptcy is the best solution.

John Piccinini explores this year's trends in HR and recruiting

With U.S. rates of unemployment at their lowest in over a decade, the country's staffing and recruitment industries are enjoying a much-welcomed boom.

SARASOTA, FL, UNITED STATES, April 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — At just 4.1%, current unemployment rates are down from a recent high of 10% in 2009. As a result, the value of the staffing and recruitment market has now rocketed to a total of over $150 billion annually.

"What's more, recruiters almost unanimously agree that it's candidates, not employers, who are holding the cards in today's staffing market," explains John Piccinini, a Fort Lauderdale-based recruitment specialist.

A recent industry sentiment study by MRINetwork confirms this, with upwards of 90% of recruiters surveyed believing the current market to be driven by candidates. "This is largely based on job offers and opportunities outstripping supply of potential staff," adds Piccinini.

Since records began, the U.S. has seen unemployment rates as low as 1% during World War I and peaking at 25% during the Great Depression. The 2009 high of 10% is only fractionally behind the second highest peak on record when in November 1982 the country's unemployment rate reached 10.8%.

"Over the past 70 years, the average rate of unemployment across the board in the U.S. has been 5.8%, so to see a new low of just 4.1% is great news," notes Piccinini. "Right now," he continues, "talent is more in demand than ever, which is ideal for candidates seeking new or alternative employment. Executive search, in particular, is seeing a huge resurgence and now accounts for more new hires than ever before."

Often referred to as headhunting, so-called executive search now accounts for upwards of 30% of all new hires, according to Piccinini. "These candidates, on average, also prove to be twice as efficient as those hired through non-executive search methods," he adds.

A study by recruitment software company Lever backs this up, with the same study also revealing that 90% of professionals currently in employment are open to being approached with new work opportunities.

"Only a third of professionals are actively looking for, or considering looking for, a change of employment, despite 90% being receptive to offers, according to the Lever study," explains Piccinini. "That's why executive search is important, and, as a result, enjoys great rates of success. Executive search provides employers with access to swathes of brilliant candidates who would otherwise be off the open job market," he continues.

The same study meanwhile highlights that over 50% of individuals seeking or recently settled in new employment reported experiencing one or more negative encounters during the process. It's with this in mind that Piccinini believes that for as long as demand continues to outstrip supply in the job market, it's candidates who have the upper hand, even while in existing employment.

Piccinini explains, "If you're a skilled professional willing to explore new opportunities, you must make sure that you're receptive to them."

CRANSTON , R.I., UNITED STATES, April 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — CRANSTON, R.I. – A Spanish street painting titled Palma De Mallorca Street Scene by the French-American artist Ludwig Bemelmans (1898-1962), best known as the illustrator for the popular Madeline children’s book series, sold for $13,750 to take top lot honors at Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers’ Antiques & Fine Art Estate Auction, a 356-lot sale conducted on April 14th.

The sale was held online and in the Bruneau & Co. gallery, at 63 Fourth Avenue in Cranston. “I was pleased to see the Bemelmans painting exceed our expectations,” said Kevin Bruneau, the president and auctioneer of Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers. “In fact, there was strong bidding all around, with some prices making it feel like it was fifteen years ago. It was overall a great sale.”

The casein paint, ink and pencil on board by Bemelmans measured 26 inches by 30 inches in the frame and depicted a quaint strip of homes in Palma, the capital of the Balaeric Islands of Spain. It was signed and dated 1956. Bemelmans was truly an international artist. He was born in what was then Austria-Hungary (now Italy) to a Belgian father and German mother. His first language was French (his second was German). He emigrated to the U.S. and became a citizen in 1918.

The rest of the sale was an eclectic mix of merchandise from a diverse array of categories. “Strong results were seen for French furniture and decorative arts when compared to years past,” said Travis Landry, a Bruneau & Co. specialist and auctioneer. “Competitive bidding brought the French Neoclassical bronze figural group to a private collection in Egypt, followed by a pair of parquetry inlaid bombe chests to Canada. You never know where things are going to end up.”

The fine and large French Neoclassical bronze figural group showed a courting couple standing near a plant stand. The couple stood 26 inches tall but, when added to an ormolu bronze mounted rouge marble base, the overall height was 36 inches. The piece was signed “Dumege” and stamped “Made in France” and, at $5,625, was one of two other lots to top the $5,000 mark.

The other was a 19th century Italian Carrera marble fountain bowl base, which fetched $5,312. It was part of a delightful selection of exterior architectural antiques in the auction. The bowl, 38 inches in diameter and 22 inches tall, was quatrefoil form, with foliate ornamentation in relief, decorated with birds on either side. It was supported by four marble pedestals, all later added.

Another exterior architectural antique that drew much bidder attention was a monumental 18th century (or older) Indian carved stone temple doorway – about 7 feet tall by 4 feet wide ($3,438). It was sold in place, at the estate where it currently resides in Providence, R.I., and consisted of upright columns, two overhead lentils and a footer stone, with carvings of deities throughout.

A large circa 1880 Japanese Meiji period carved wood etagere, 96 inches tall, found a new owner for $3,835. The etagere was profusely carved hardwood with multiple hand-decorated impasto painted panels of landscapes, with several shelves on a Kang form base. Also, a late 19th century jade rock crystal bronze shelf clock, made in China and Switzerland, with a rock crystal bangle embellished dial flanked by opposing birds clutching branches with two peaches, made $2,812.

A Queen Anne stained tiger maple highboy, made in New England in the 18th century, 76 inches tall, having five graduated drawers over two vertical over three drawers with a fan-carved center, supported by stout cabriole legs with a shapely skirt, finished at $2,500; while a fine 18th century American Chippendale carved gilt and gesso mirror with Aesthetic chinoiserie design, having a full-figured phoenix bird crest adorning a shapely pierced foliate frame, 54 inches tall hit $4,688.

An oil on canvas impressionist landscape painting signed by Gustave Cimiotti, Jr. (N.Y., 1875-1969), possibly depicting the Bear Mountain region of New York and housed in a period Arts and Crafts frame measuring 24 inches by 20 ½ inches, changed hands for $1,375. Also, a late 19th or early 20th century antique Turkish Oushak Oriental wool carpet rug, 14 feet 6 inches by 12 feet 3 inches, with a central floral and tendril field and geometric borders, brought $2,250.
